The Twelve Colonies are the human force in Cyrannus, a quaternary star system that consists of two sets of binary systems that orbit a shared barycenter. After the Cylon rebellion, the Colonies banded together into the Quorum Alliance, led by the Quorum of Twelve, a legislative body that works alongside the executive branch of federal government. Each colony is entitled to one representative in the assembly.
The Alliance was formalized after signing the Articles of Colonization, a collection of documents that instituted the basis of the federal government, known as the Twelve Colonies of Kobol. Formalized and signed as a response to the increased aggression of the Cylon rebellion.
